Julian’s Private Dining (Houston, Texas)

For my latest blog post, I am super excited to feature Julian’s Private Dining, a catering service owned and operated by Julian Brown, who happens to be my very dear friend and coworker. Julian is a Flight Attendant for a major airline and that’s how we met 10 years ago and instantly bonded over our common interest and love of great food. This Chicago native is a self-taught chef who was raised by both his mother and grandmother. Both worked in the restaurant industry all their lives and inspired his great love of cooking and catering. Julian remembers his first cooking experience at age 5 when he fried the perfect egg on his own. Julian is a phenomenal chef by nature, and is known at work for spoiling his crew members by cooking tasty feasts that last for 3 days! Here’s an abbreviated example of some of his flavorful dishes; Seared salmon w/ roasted garlic, rosemary, cherry wine sauce, served with grilled asparagus and homemade garlic mashed potatoes! Grilled choice rib-eye steak w/ sautéed mushrooms in a red wine tarragon sauce w/roasted red potatoes tossed in organic virgin olive oil, fresh Italian spices, and baked season Brussels Sprouts!

Julian recently hosted brunch for a small group of his friends. My sister and I were fortunate enough to not only attend but to capture him in action as he prepared an amazing spread featuring a few of his famous items. The brunch menu consisted of Golden fried buttermilk chicken, Spinach quiche with applewood bacon and feta cheese, French toast with powdered sugar, fresh strawberries, blueberries, and maple syrup! I had an opportunity to sit down and chat with Julian at home and discovered that Julian’s Private Dining officially began catering 3 years ago. I’m proud to say that my family was one of his very 1st patrons. Julian has catered many of our family events including a Mothers Day brunch for 20 people and my nephew’s high school graduation dinner. The quality, quantity, and pure deliciousness of his food was amazing! Julian’s service during both events was impeccable. He cooks with so much love and adoration for his clients.

Some of Julian’s most popular catering items, especially during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season are; Smoked turkeys, Fried ribs, Mac and Cheese, Seared scallops, Fried turkeys, Yams, Green beans, Cornbread dressing, Stuffed chickens and Cornish hens plus so much more! Julian prides himself with an assortment of mouth-watering desserts such as; Sweet potato pie, Red velvet cake, Banana pudding, Pecan pie, Peach cobbler, Pound cake, Lemon cake, Sock-it-to-me cake, Cheesecake, Lemon meringue pie, Coconut pie, Strawberry cake, and several flavors of homemade cookies! I could write a book on all of the fabulous meals Julian has prepared for us in the last 10 years but I’d like to leave something to the imagination.

The biggest advantage of hiring Julian’s Private Dining for your event is not only the scrumptious food but also his talented and creative decorating skills. His food and decorating presentation is above and beyond anything you can imagine. His southern style cooking along with the love and care he showers each client with is the perfect setting for all of your special events. It was Mother’s Day 2015 and the mood was festive because my family was together again and that’s reason enough to celebrate. The table was set to perfection with fresh flowers, personalized name tags accented with pearls and fine china. Julian was in house cooking a special meal consisting of Fresh Bruschetta on Crostini, Pan Seared Salmon, Grilled Asparagus, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Cheese Cake with Fresh Strawberries, and he teased us with an assorted Fresh Fruit and Cheese Platter and Mimosa’s made with Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice for starters. The atmosphere was light and airy with jazz music playing in the background, roars of laughter, and excitement from the sweet aroma of Julian’s cooking that we highly anticipated of enjoying soon. Finally we were all seated but before we ate my father gave a powerful prayer, giving thanks to God for allowing us the opportunity to gather again for such another auspicious occasion! We ate, drank, danced, and indeed were merry for we were grateful to be the recipients of such an amazing event catered by Julian’s Private Dining!
